Bio

Peter Chen is an experienced data science, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) professional with a strong passion for teaching and course development. He has designed and taught courses on machine learning and clustering for Experfy, a Harvard Innovation Lab startup—where one of his courses became among the platform’s most highly subscribed. Peter has taught data science, ML, Tableau, and data analytics at UC San Diego Extension, where his courses consistently received outstanding reviews across multiple cohorts. He also teaches a Data Science course originally developed by UC Berkeley. As part of this commitment, he regularly participates in the National Workshop on Data Science Education, a premier conference focused on best practices in teaching data science. Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology, teaching a wide range of subjects including Data Science, SQL, Python, databases, and other core computing topics. He brings over 20 years of industry experience, having worked at major companies such as Comcast, Petco, Axos Bank, and Mitchell International, as well as at innovative startups. His roles have ranged from technical contributor to Director and VP-level leadership, leading teams of data analysts and data scientists. Peter is also the Founder of a machine learning and AI consulting practice that serves clients across a wide range of industries, including healthcare, finance, retail, education, and marketing. In addition to delivering practical AI solutions for organizations, his consulting work has led to academic collaborations and peer-reviewed research. He has co-authored publications with institutions such as the UC San Diego School of Medicine, with research published by Oxford University Press and other respected academic journals. Peter earned his bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and holds two master’s degrees from Harvard University. For his first master’s degree, he was honored to be awarded as the Commencement Speaker for his graduating cohort.
