About the Course

Ready to dive into the world of hardware and operating systems? This beginner-friendly course builds essential entry-level skills needed for roles in IT support, networking, cybersecurity, and software development. During this course, you’ll explore core computing concepts and the four functions of computing. You’ll then dive into internal hardware such as CPUs, motherboards, GPUs, memory, interfaces, ports, and peripherals. Plus, you’ll look at how modern technologies such as virtualization (including host/guest OS and hypervisors), parallel-processing GPUs, IoT devices, and VR/AR systems are transforming today’s IT environments. You’ll get hands-on with operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile platforms, and practice workstation setup, configuration, acquisition, and troubleshooting just like an IT professional. Plus, you’ll look at specialized devices like wearables and e-readers to gain practical technology insights. Throughout, interactive labs help reinforce your learning. Then, in a final project, you’ll apply your new skills in real-world scenarios. This course is also part of the series to help you prepare for CompTIA Tech+ and A+ certification exams....

I found the "Introduction to Hardware and Operating Systems" course to be quite informative and well-structured. The content covered essential topics, including the fundamentals of computer hardware, different types of operating systems, and how they interact with hardware components. The material was presented in a clear and concise manner, making complex concepts easier to understand. I appreciated the use of practical examples that helped illustrate how hardware and operating systems work together in real-world scenarios. While the introduction was excellent, I felt some topics could have been explored in greater depth for those wanting to delve deeper into specific areas. At times, the pacing felt a bit rushed, especially when covering more complex subjects. Overall, I would recommend this course to anyone looking to build a solid foundation in computer hardware and operating systems. It serves as a great starting point for further study in IT or computer science. Feel free to modify this template based on your actual experience and thoughts!

Good course but some of the terminology is wrong such as normal desktop PCs being referred to as workstations, built-in components being referred to as "cards" even though it's only supposed to refer to expansion cards (e.g. integrated GPUs incorrectly being referred to as graphics cards), and SSDs being referred to as hard drives. Some of the quizzes are also a bit dumb because some of the questions really have multiple correct answers and this course only recognises one of them to be correct, so you basically have to guess what answer they want you to choose for some of the multi-choice questions. Other than that it's a good course with a lot of useful info and I learnt a lot from it.

Decent course, I think there is room for improvement in exploring more avenues/topics specifically for troubleshooting since that is one of the largest parts of hardware and operating systems, but the basics was covered, so I have no complaints and I am grateful for this course. Thank you.

It was very educational and a great refresher. I wish there were more hands on tasks. I learn better when I can get more hands on tasks.
